Excellent Dog

I can't believe I've missed 'D' with the A,B,C's!! C had a great idea of Excellent Dog..to catch the D & E!!!  For D's I think- Dear husband, Daughter, Dogs, Denali Nat. Park (oh, recently my husband was reading that they need to limit the amount of climbers on the peak!), Downtown, Double crochet, Doilies, Double pointed needles, Decreasing stitches, Damato field (where my son plays baseball)....OK I think you have the idea of the D's I think of :) Speaking of Dear husband and Daughter...I immediately thought of this favorite picture of mine taken at Yosemite last summer!

Must show you a new addition to the Golden clan...her name is 'Jerri'

I can assure you we did NOT pick out the color! My son was able to adopt with little girl from a friend's brother! She is adorable, very friendly, and very easy to take care of. I've never really been around a nocturnal animal before...I mean, you know certain animals are, but to actually have one in the house is humorous! If you wake her up at 1 pm..she looks like me at 6am...and then at 8pm you can hear her doing her 'morning' exercises on her wheel. Do you know a hamster can do 4-6 miles a day!? I believe it!   .........if only I had that discipline!!!

I have many things I'd like to share with you, but  I'm fighting a deep chested type cold and the energy just isn't there.

LIST FRIDAY

Oh, goodness I almost forget my LIST! List you say? Well, Pomegranatesandpaper had a wonderful idea. Of course the place doesn't matter, but I'll share this trip is to the boondocks somewhere in the mountains around 8-12,000 ft. I see a secluded campsite against a meadow with a stream going through with mountain peaks all around.

• my camera (really a no brain-er there)
• my binoculars
• a notebook/sketchpad (probably both)
• Te Tao body lotion and some body butter (orange) lotion by the same company
• Carmex  (just a little odd, I love the smell and must have it on my lips before sleeping)
• coffee and a percolator (you know the real type over the flame!)
• my Sante Fe book bag with various new knitting or crocheting books with the project I'm working on, a brand new creative magazine, a few magazines I want to finish up, and a Dickens novel
• Must have my journal
• my most favorite bird book
• grits.... don't ask when your camping you must have buttered grits (the real type please!)

a little odd?...I could go on and on, but I'll stop at the ten requested. Mr. Oasis, Nugget, kids?      well,  -no- this was a trip for just me and nature.

Curling

Please no hate mail...perhaps I AM very uneducated....but ..."curling"? I totally respect the curler's of the world..... GO CURLING!

...but I'm sorry ....I'll curl hair (well, not any more!), I'll curl ribbon, I like 'curls' of yarn around me, love curly hair (which I don't have, but others around me have tons), I love to curl down a mountain pass (I'm thinking Red Mountain pass my Colorado friends!), I love to curl up to those I love...but last weekend my husband surprised me...we were flipping through channels and stopped on 'Olympic Curling' and I watched for a couple of seconds minutes and then FLIPPED from...but my husband shouted in earnest, "NOO, go back!"  ....now you can just imagine the thoughts going through my mind! (well, maybe you can't, but I'm not going there! Those who know me well and happen to know my husband you will know exactly what I mean!) He actually sat there and for the first time in his life watched and tried to really figure the sport out! Bravo Zulu to him!.........regrettably, I'm still not there (yet)....but as blogging allows a person to be open-minded and explore different things I'm on a path to really look into this thing called CURLING!

What doesn't belong?

Call me crazy, but when I go to a dog park I look forward to seeing and petting other people's dogs...seeing my dog with other people... and finally- seeing and talking with the people!  Today there was a young man with a dog...hands deep in his pockets and had a 'football' type move twirling around when a dog came up to him.

Then Nugget did the deed...and nudged his cuff of his jacket .....horrors!  After running around..what was around her mouth?    I had just caught a glimpse and saw this young man find the deadly deed remnant and in slow motion..."Oh....my....gawg...what...is...this?" As he slowly twisted his arm to see the MARK!   Now I have to admit, two other dog owners were also looking at him like he was crazy.   I moved on because I was ALMOST going to say something!

IT'S DOG SPIT!!!! welcome to the world of dogs!   I'm sorry...as I write this I have to chuckle...after all, I have even pee-ed on by some male Manchester terrier in the past!!!

I don't know what was worse- the fact that he avoided all the dogs in the dog park or simply the image I have in my head of this young man's slow motion!

Please folks, word of warning to all people who have never been to a dog park: Do not wear your best shoes or pants that you don't want hair, spit, or scuff marks on!

...I don't know, through the miracle of laundry detergent I've simply never have had a problem with stains!

Can we have Valentines day for ONE more day?

Mr. Oasis is out to sea....yet look what came to the door yesterday?

He had left a velvet box of Dove chocolates in-front of the coffee pot with a card on Monday (the day he left) and I thought that was sweet enough!

I made myself a little something last night....my other favorite guy is helping to display it for me!

I'm not usually a 'pink' person, but this Sugar 'n Cream cotton was just yummy;)

...and what do I see flattened in my yard?

This is what we call...."Getting our Golden Rays"  this really has to be done at least once a day!

No complaints here...after all, THIS is what we call winter in Southern California!

To all my readers I wish you a very nice Valentine's Day....I decided to pick out all my gold hearts....all applicable!

What 25 cents can bring you...

There is something a little different I want to share today. It's a gorgeous-very clear- day in San Diego, but I've been caught 'surfing' this morning. It all started with a cute little booklet I picked up at a local library book sale for .25 cents called- Denali: A Living Tapestry.   I love that park and it's land- I've been there twice! It makes me chuckle because both times I was never able to actually see Mt. McKinley! For those of you outside our country..Mt. McKinley is in the state of Alaska and is the tallest mountain in North America at 20,320 feet.  It was under it's blanket of clouds both time when I visited that area! You can not drive within the park...you travel on a old school bus along the winding path to the observation area. Both times I was able to see beautiful huge grizzles bears! One was walking besides the bus when we stopped!

Anyway, where am I going with this? In this booklet, I found a wonderful story explaining why crows are black! So after doing some ethnographic surfing, I could not get my 'hand's' around The Geese House report by Susan Morton. It is an out of print publication written for the historic site committee in Alaska. Even going to the University of Alaska anthropology section, I could not find a thing! However, when I make these attempts I always find loads of information that I would love to explore!

For instance, I love the satellite view of the Park and the NP info, as well as, a nice summary.

The Geese House is included in an oral Athabaskan tradition. It is a remote natural rock formation 'house' lichen-stained outcroppings streaked with black, ochre, green, yellow, and orange:

"Raven was getting his feathers painted at Geese House and was being very picky about how it was done. Each time they painted him with a different color, but he was never satisfied because it wasn't bright enough. So they got mad at Raven and threw all the black paint on him. That's why he is all black. " ...told by Julius Bettis of Nenana.

Perhaps the colors in the lichen were the streaks of the attempted color?

Hmmmm....best  25 cents spent I'd say ;)
