HOME! I know I've waited until the last minute, but April 22nd isn't over yet!!
This is the back of our home and I think you've seen the front side of it in past posts of course this was right after we moved in..no furniture or table out back. Welcome to Navy housing! I have to say I absolutely love my huge back lawn (although I can hear I-15 quite loudly). I like the idea of being an end unit and my neighbor is friendly, quite, and clean. :)
Although, I'm not thrilled being this 'close' to people (always have lived in 'houses'-since after having children) and vehicles on the street and each house having 2.5 children....how do you have a half child? HA! ...I always wanted to know. Let's see that is two 4 bedrooms in middle of units and 3 bedrooms on the end and that is about 8 units...you do the math.....say 80...WHAT? I just thought of the numbers of this!!!
I don't want to go on...it's a very magnified way of living among people you really have nothing in common with (other than military, schools) but I don't know I feel we are a little different which is fine perhaps made that way. Luckily, our street is VERY quiet and all families seem 'normal'- the trouble ones have moved....but other streets you see the sightings of beer cans on the front porch...parties out of the garages, cars being worked on/half worked on, children throwing rocks on the the roads for kicks, or better yet the telephone? box on a corner right up from me just ripped out? This civilian contractors that manage this development do a very good job....when I call for anything they are there in 20-30 minutes! They pick up trash daily in their little golf carts (imagine if they didn't), they do landscaping (new palm trees coming in ever priced one of those? and flowering plants at every entrance, and REDO landscaping after unruly kids march all over it or pull bushes out or slid down very nicely mulches slopes...or better yet...pull the tops off the automatic sprinkler heads...just for kicks. (IE. parents who don't watch their children)
ANYWAY, HOME.......aside from the 'development' I live in I'm happy with my home and feel very lucky to have it....some people don't and I cannot help to think the situation still in the Katrina hurt places.....I cannot help but think of my DH house was...still plywood floors in middle of nowhere GA......---people just don't know---(yes, in the year 2006). We give to Habitat to Humanity every year....so when I saw this picture I could help but share:
It was from the HH website...and happen to be a house in GA.
We are thankful for wherever we have HOME...HOME is everywhere. Yes, we have a unique lifestyle and after retirement we yearn for our 'last' HOME, but until then we remain thankful. We also consider "Prairie Dawn" to be our other home:
No matter what we always have her if ever we were homeless! Moving between Fl and CA we spent three to four weeks in it (homeless)....it would really work if need be.
When we say "Welcome Home" to my husband when he comes from sea....it's means a little more than just that...it's our place in our heart of the 4 of us together.
